Reach is the grapple ability used on the game's glowing spherical anchor points. You receive it during Jesse Sightings: The Subway Fault in the Evacuation Zone, after following the subway tunnels to a CRT television and meeting Jesse in the Astral Plane. The Fault's exit then teaches you how to use Reach with Shift.
If a visible sphere has no prompt, move closer and center it in view. The ability has limited range; double-jump or dodge toward the anchor before using the displayed grapple control.
Locate the Subway Fault
Track the Jesse Sightings objective and head to the Evacuation Zone station marker. The entrance is below the map pin, framed by green, yellow, and blue light in the fog. Descend the subway stairs, pass the turnstiles, and take the tunnel that is not blocked by a train. Following the turquoise Mold leads you into the Patterned rail section.
This route is a movement challenge as much as a fight. At the upright track, time the jump across the gap. Later, where the tunnel drops away, leap toward the shaft wall and use Elevate to control the landing. In the warped station, take the lower platform and yellow-lit tunnel.
Cross the moving trains safely
Treat each passing train as a timed hazard. Wait in a sheltered pocket, let the train clear, and move to the next alcove. A hit returns you to the start of that stretch; trying to outrun a train usually costs more time than waiting one cycle. In the large chamber with trains traveling in several directions, descend using the stationary cars in the center or the opposite platforms. Clear the Mold enemies on the blue-lit lower platform, then continue to the old CRT television.
The television takes Dylan into the Astral Plane. Cross the floating tracks to the car where Jesse appears. Talk to her and follow the ritual objective. The Reach received banner appears during this sequence; finishing the Fault and leaving properly confirms it as part of your permanent movement kit.
Learn the grapple in the Astral Plane
Aim at the glowing sphere, wait for the prompt, and pull toward it. Move between the floating islands and the TV console. The console flips gravity, so the same grapple can attach to an inverted surface and align Dylan with it; grabbing a normal surface restores normal orientation. Combine Shift and Reach up the station structure, then cross the autumn-colored platforms toward the final vortex. Interact with the CRT television after the ritual to leave.
The supplied Subway Fault route reports a Living Shard, Talent Point, and Evacuation Zone XP on completion. The useful check is the Quest Log's completed state and the fact that you can grapple to a previously inaccessible sphere in Manhattan.
Leave the station and use Reach elsewhere
On the way out, grapple between side platforms and stationary trains, timing each pull after a moving train passes. Continue up the tunnel rather than trying every side door. A later room uses Shift around a blocked train and leads to the Patterned Metro Tunnels fast-travel door, which makes future visits shorter.
Reach opens elevated side-quest routes as well as story gates. For example, the Underpass dog toy and several Freeze Frame camera routes depend on it. The abilities overview explains where Shift, Ground Slam, and the Combat Abilities come from; the walkthrough places the Fault in the main progression.
